Well I can firmly say it’s a very good camera phone. Just like any camera, the true test is light vs. dark areas combined. I’m in no way a good photodog. However I do know about thirds and ‘nineths’ and try to use them if I remember. I’m here till 4 today. It’s a nice day.

Keep in mind this is out of the box performance. No settings adjusted, just my fingers framing on the screen. Light adjustment on its own. I’d say it’s really great.

Hotel lobby is cool. So that about sums up it’s abilities just to start. But I can’t leave you without lunch.

The Night Sight setting does an amazing job for low light shots given that it’s a single lens camera setup.

Nice pictures! I’m not great with photography but people tell me I have an eye for it, whatever that means. Here’s one of my favorites straight out of the Pixel 3.

Somewhat related, does San Antonio make for a good day trip from Austin? I usually only hear about the Riverwalk and the Alamo.

I hear it’s a drive but it’s a cool city. Wax museum, Ripley’s, touristy really but nice atmosphere and lots of did down middle price restaurants. (Hard rock, margaritaville, etc .) Alamo.

Ive not gone too far yet but if it’s not shit hot, it’s good!

Ah, the river walk. A cool place, and also the site of my most infamous drunken escapades as a Marine on a night that ended with throwing up on the Alamo before getting only a few hours of sleep and flying home as cargo on a C-130 still under the influence. When my recon company was given only about 6 hours of off-duty libo after the preceding two and a half weeks days that averaged 3-4 hours of sleep a night , we got our money’s worth out of it on the river walk. There may have been an innocent Honda CRV harmed in the course of the evening, and one random Airman’s pride was forever wounded.

The river walk is a cool deal to have in the city.  Visited for a work trip couple months back.  Hit the Pearl district too, that’s very cool.  Good food and good drinks.

Pixels (and other phones running the ported Google Camera app) produce great results out of the box. Even though they’re meant to be quick & easy, there’s a good amount of additional detail information that you can pull out of the shadows and highlights with a little editing. Google Photos has some decent built-in editing tools and you can get more advanced with Snapseed.

For example, here’s a pic straight out of the camera from Google Camera on my Essential PH-1:

Looks pretty good, right? But after some light editing...

I still sometimes swipe my wife’s Pixel gen 1 to take photos in conditions my iPhone XS stumbles on. They are great cameras.
